A Lighting Idea

Yesterday, I had an idea of how to light up the oak tree mural. Place track lighting on the hearth floor, aiming up to the tiles. To try it out, I just placed candles to see how the effect would be with shadows etc. Of course, the candles aren't going to justice to what an electric bulb could do. I don't know. I'm slightly inspired.

What do YOU think?

Hi Joe,

I think the effect is really cool! I love uplighting. I would just be really careful that the light fixture itself isn't too big or bulky that it would distract from that beautiful mural. I know they make mini-uplights, though I'm not sure it they would produce enough light for your space.

Did you design that mural yourself? Very nice!

Thanks for the comment, Kim. Yes, I spent about 3 months making that mural. It was a lot of fun. The intent was to just do something unique, rather than just plain tiles.

Wow, what extraordinary talent! So much texture and life! Plain tiles would pale in comparison...great job!

Makes me think of the Korea War Memorial.

Joe,
Great idea about lighting the mural from the bottom. You can probably find some good halogen lights and put them on a dimmer switch. That should make for a cool effect when the stove goes in.

Cool-looking for a party but I'm thinking it's unnatural. A tree would really be lit from above or from the direction of the fire/woodstove. Maybe track or halogen from the side rather than the floor.
