Kitchen Drywall

What a difference drywall makes. The kitchen is now really starting to take shape.

Although I'm doing most of the work myself for the overall remodel, there are 3 things that I've hired out: plumbing, drywall, and cabinetry. I feel these are best left to the professionals. So far, I've been very successful. Alternative Drywall hung the sheetrock and applied the first mud in probably 5 hours, then came back the next day and applied the second mudding and primer. I was very impressed and the detail around the beams is great. If it were me, I'd still be haggling with hanging. I highly recommend these guys to any of you Portlanders out there.

And the finale....

Looking good....well actually GREAT!

I can't wait until we can get the ceiling up in the kitchen. But due to the snow, I think any trip to buy bead board is currently on the back burner.

Thanks Jan. I actually envy all that snow you're getting back there.

Kitchen looks great! I've enjoyed watching your progress and I'm a bit jealous that you are able to do so much work yourself. Our remodel will be much more expensive because we don't know how to do the work ourselves!

This is incredible work! I also live in Montavilla, and have a 1896 Victorian Farmhouse. I was doing some research on how to get started on remodeling and your blog is truly inspiring.
Have you done all the designing?

Thanks Bernadette. I can't take all the credit. A good friend of mine had a country store that gave me a few great suggestions, plus I also hired a designer or two during the process to give an overview.
Good luck with your remodel and feel free to ask any remodel questions.
